Overview

The ability to create professional, eye-catching scientific illustrations is an increasingly valuable skill for researchers and scientists. From their use in publication figures, to enhancing conference presentations and grant applications, 3D illustrations are becoming a key element of effective academic communication.

This introductory workshop will provide a practical guide to using Blender, a powerful and free 3D design tool, to create scientific visuals. The workshop is designed for researchers and aims to provide a starting for 3D illustrations that can be incorporated into their academic work.

Participants will first be introduced to the basics of 3D illustration through Blender’s capabilities, before putting theory into practice via a hands-on exercise to create and render a 3D graphic.

No prior experience in 3D modelling or Blender is required.

Workshop Facilitator

is a Senior Teaching Associate with the Doctoral Training Centre for Nanoscience (Deptartment of Physics) and a Bye-Fellow at Lucy Cavendish College.

Outside of academia, Ryo works as a freelance scientific illustrator, creating 3D illustrations for publications, journal covers and technical animations for both academia and industry. He also teaches various aspects of 3D scientific illustration through workshops and .
