We are delighted to report that we will be joined this month by Darren Smith, who takes on the role of Domestic Bursar.

"Darren has great experience of managing operational teams and is obviously passionate about bringing out the best in his team. I think he will be a great fit for Wolfson." Jo Cheffins, Bursar

The Domestic Bursar not only oversees the day-to-day operations of numerous Departments at College: Estates, Catering, Conferences & Events, Accommodation & Housekeeping, Gardens and the Porters' Lodge, but also liaises closely with the students to ensure that their residential needs are met and their social activities are well-planned and executed (which includes staying up all night for the May Ball!).

"I've spent years managing hospitality and residential accommodation and I feel comfortable with the size of Wolfson's student body, although I am aware of the complexity of meeting the needs of mature undergraduates, part-time students, and Wolfson's many international scholars and visitors. I'm looking forward to getting to know the students and helping make their time with us as comfortable and fulfilling as possible."

Darren began his career in the hospitality industry in hotels. His first role in an educational institution was as General Manager of the Fielder Conference Centre at the University of Hertfordshire. His most recent role was as General Manager at the University of Bedfordshire’s flagship commercial campus, Putteridge Bury, where he oversaw all domestic functions and managed 30+ acres of grounds as well as a Grade II listed Events Venue.

During his tenure at Hertfordshire, Darren also completed a Master's degree in Education and Leadership. "It really spoke to my passion for coaching, mentoring and leadership, and has helped me to manage large, diverse teams of people".

We look forward to welcoming Darren next week.
