Varsity Sports Update

Some close calls and some good wins for Â鶹ËÞÉáµçÊÓ¾çathletes following a big weekend of sport.

Cambridge University Ice Hockey win 2019

Here are the results of Varsity sports action. Congratulations to all for your hard-fought efforts!

Chess - Ryan-Rhys Griffiths playing in London at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall. (RESULTS: Narrow loss to Oxford)
Fencing - Mark Jenei fencing as Epeéist at 13.00 at the Cambridge Guildhall. (RESULTS: Loss to Oxford but Mark is awarded Newcomer of the Year!
Ice hockey - Philip Holbrook plays right wing at the Oxford Ice Rink. (RESULTS: Cambridge smashed it 8-1, with Philip scoring two goals and two assists.)
Men's rugby league - Ben Fraser may have to bow out due to injury, but Zach Bollman will be on the pitch at Cambridge RUFC at 14.00.(RESULTS: Sadly a loss to Oxford.)
Women's rugby - Sydney Bradshaw playing against the Oxford Panthers at 16.00 at Grange Road. (RESULTS: Tigers lost in a "closely fought and physical" match "with the Cambridge team performing defensive heroics for long periods.")
Men's football - Angus Buttar playing for the Falcons at 20.00 in Oxford. (RESULTS: Falcons win 7-6 on penalties.)
Athletics - will be competing in the high jump and the hurdles at Varsity Field Events and Relays (VFEAR) at Lee Valley in London (RESULTS: Gunther won the high jump at 192cm and placed second in the hurdles. The Cambridge high jumpers reached a combined height of 7.47m, missing the historic match record of 7.50m by only 3cm!

Several Â鶹ËÞÉáµçÊÓ¾çstudents are represented in the Aussie Rules Football teams, including Bodhi Hardinge (MPhil Business) and Patrick Schmidt (MBA). This year, Oxford come to Cambridge on Saturday 16 March for the . Cambridge currently hold the coveted Varsity trophy. 

In men's football, the Blues Varsity match is coming up on Sunday 10 March. Film Studies student Noah Reich is on the team; .

 takes place on Saturday 9 March at the Cambridge Corn Exchange. Club President Aiden Cope (PhD, Criminology) says the Varsity team will be announced shortly. .
