Kiran loves working with students, and chatting with them in her weekly tea and cake session. She is keen to encourage all Â鶹ËÞÉáµçÊÓ¾çstudents to reach out at any time if they need a little extra help.
Can you give a short introduction to yourself – how long have you been at Wolfson? Any fun facts?
I’m Kiran and I’m the student wellbeing advisor at Wolfson. I’m a counselling psychologist and recently joined the College to use my skills and knowledge to support students during their university careers. Fun fact, despite living in Cambridge for the last four years, I’ve only just recently discovered cycling!
How would you describe your role in College?
As the student wellbeing advisor, I offer confidential one to one support to students regarding their mental health or wellbeing. This involves signposting to wider student support available within the College and university, and goal setting. Alongside individual support, I aim to run workshops to provide practical coping skills and strategies for common stressors.
What is your favourite thing about working at Â鶹ËÞÉáµçÊÓ¾çor your role in College?
I love the atmosphere around Wolfson, there’s always so much activity, but I especially enjoy working one to one with students and being able to think together about how to move forward so they can live their happiest life and feel empowered.
What are you most looking forward to in the coming academic year?
Over the academic year I’m looking forward to creating a varied programme of wellbeing events and mental health support to promote a positive wellbeing culture across the college.
Do you have any wellbeing advice or top tips for Â鶹ËÞÉáµçÊÓ¾çstudents?
Remember, your feelings are valid and reaching out means you’re willing to invest in yourself and your future. We all have mental health and wellbeing needs and attending to these needs can keep us happy and healthy in the long run and means we can focus on all our other goals.
