We need global vaccine equality now. The Covid-19 pandemic is in its third year. Rich governments are giving out booster vaccine doses. Meanwhile, the modest goal of vaccinating at least 40% of every country’s population last year was missed.. Global vaccine inequality shows that pharmaceutical companies cannot be trusted to act in the name of our common good. While they benefit from millions of public funding as an incentive to work on health issues, their business model prioritises profit making over global access.
The Covid-19 vaccines save lives. In this tour we will look at the current crisis and explore ways we can make a difference together. We’ll discuss the existing model of healthcare provision and:
- Who has access to healthcare and why?
- Who pays for new drugs?
- How do we decolonise healthcare?
- How do pharma monopolies stop us from providing universal access to health?
- Why does public research and public provision matter in solving pandemics?
- Who is most impacted by vaccine inequality?
- How do we challenge global power from within our institutions of education?
We will also celebrate past and present global movements that seek to challenge this broken system, learn about successful tactics for organising on campus and among our communities and start imagining a different way of keeping each other safe and healthy.
Participatory discussions with a relevant international speaker plus UK and local voices. The events will seek to explain existing campaigning work and explore alternative ideas – what more can we be all doing to dismantle pharma monopolies and disperse power and innovation across the world.
The livestream will be available on our website.
